Paleo

Size: 13" tall x 4" wide

Media: aspen wood • fish hangs from contrasting blend of milkweed and inner sagebrush bark cordage • hang height adjusted via hangman’s noose • clematis cordage body wrap • sinew glue paint-binder derived from deer, elk, antelope & moose tendons • charcoal and red ochre paint pigments • burnished with deer antler & finished with beeswax • paints and cordage made by hand just as the prehistoric people made them

 

Greasewood

Due to its hardness, Greasewood was frequently utilized by the Native Americans of the Western U.S. Common uses were arrow and atlatl dart foreshafts, and digging sticks.

Media: aspen wood • fish hangs from buckskin leather cordage • sharpened greasewood ribs with fire hardened tips & ring of red ochre/sinew glue paint • five separate body wraps of deer sinew • burnished with deer antler & finished with beeswax

Copper Eye

Size: 19" tall x 5.5" wide

Media: burned birch wood • patinaed copper eye • red & yellow ochers • hangs from double twisted cordage made from salvaged belt

Grapey

Size: 11" tall x 4" wide

Media: aspen wood • fish hangs from singed agave cordage • colors from charring & grape pulp • four separate body wraps are deer sinew painted with charcoal/sinew glue paint • burnished with deer antler & finished with beeswax

The beeswax combined with the charred aspen wood and grape pulp gave this piece an unusual yet charming fragrance that lasted several months.

 

 

Chars

Used in many cultures, charring was a technique of preserving wood in ancient times. In Japan, it is still utilized today and is known as Yakisugi. The Western translation is known as Shou Sugi Ban.

Longhair

It is believed that hair plays a part in natural selection among varying species, as healthy and thick hair, or fur, is often a sign of youth and fertility.

Jute

Known as the "Golden Fiber of Bangladesh", Jute is one of the oldest and most widely used fibers today.

Media: burned birch wood • fish hangs from double twisted & stained agave cordage • heavy jute cordage body wrap • handmade wheat paste paint with red & yellow ochers • bees wax cut with 100% citrus solvent

   

Dogwood

Size: 16" tall x 5.5" wide

Media: burned aspen wood • sharpened red osier dogwood ribs • beeswax finish • hangs from double twisted cordage made from salvaged belt
